Born in London, England, Norma Hill-Patton learned her craft at the world-renowned BBC TV, which was famous for holding the highest of industry standards worldwide. Here Norma was trained extensively not just in makeup, but also in hair styling, prosthetics production and application, and wig-making. Norma worked for 11 years on major BBC productions such as THE CLEOPATRAS, I, CLAUDIUS, and FRENCH AND SAUNDERS, the last two of which both received a British Academy Award for Make-up.
Norma then went on to a freelance career and found herself in constant demand for commercials, photo shoots, rock videos, and feature films. Having worked in Africa on many shoots, she earned the affectionate label of the “African Queen”, working on iconic movies such as, OUT OF AFRICA, MISTER JOHNSON, and A FAR OFF PLACE, to name a few.
Norma moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1991 and continues to work in feature films. She has established a career as one of the most sought after Makeup Designers in the film industry. Some of the most recognizable films she led were X-MEN 2 and 3, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, CATWOMAN, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, as well as the second movie in the immensely popular Twilight series, NEW MOON, where she designed the show’s look, along with the beauty-vampire makeup on super-stars ROBERT PATTINSON and DAKOTA FANNING and cast.
Since 2003, Norma has had the very real privilege of working with, and continues to be, the Personal Makeup Artist to actress HALLE BERRY. Norma received the CNOMA Award for her makeup work with Halle on the movie CATWOMAN, and continues to not only do Halle’s makeup for all of her Film & TV projects, but also accompanies Halle for her appearances & shoots with REVLON, as well as all of her press, magazine photo shoots.
Norma has also worked with some of Hollywood’s most iconic movie stars, including HILARY SWANK, AL PACINO, SIR PAUL McCARTNEY, SIR BEN KINGSLEY, KRISTEN SCOTT-THOMAS, REESE WITHERSPOON, ANNA PAQUIN, MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY, GARY OLDMAN, HUGH JACKMAN and PETER DINKLAGE, among many others.
Norma is presently on the advisory board for the much acclaimed Vancouver Film School, in Vancouver, BC. She is also a regular guest lecturer at various film colleges. She has been invited to headline the panel at the IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) in 2009, 2015 & 2016 in Toronto, London & Vancouver. In 2016 Norma was honoured to be invited by The ACADEMY AWARDS, into the academy as a full standing member, amongst her peers of Academy Award winners, nominees and voting members.
