Award winning photographer David Ellingsen’s tough, raw, but always gracious portraiture has attracted commissions from global magazines such as the NY Times, BMW, Time Inc, People, and Marie Claire, as well as advertising clients like MTV/Nickelodeon, BC Hydro, Translink, and the esteemed David Suzuki Foundation. David shoots commercial work with an element of his fine art in each shot; integrity, honesty and precise lighting within a strong graphic layout.
Applied Arts Illustration & Photography 2008 Annual awarded David a prestigious winning title in the “Landscape” category for his fine art images, and most recently he received 9 International Photography Awards (Lucie’s) Honorable Mentions for his images as well. David exhibits his work in fine art galleries in both Canada & the US. His photographs are captured on traditional medium or large format film stock, hand processed, and printed to museum exhibition standards in small editions.
David was raised on a rural organic farm on Cortes Island at the northern end of the Georgia Straight in British Columbia, Canada. In 1986 he relocated to Victoria, BC, where he began his studies in photography and from where he based extensive travels across North and Central America, South East Asia and the United Kingdom. In 1999 David moved to Vancouver, BC, to further his education and pursue a career in photography. David is a strong believer in giving back to his community, and is proud to support many different charity organizations such as Journalists for Human Rights, Foster Parents Plan, HIV Support Services, and others.
